Chocolate Chip Orange Cookies

by forloveofcarrots on January 16, 2013

Happy Wednesday! We got some snow/rain over here which got me hoping for a snow day! But, no dice!

So here I am telling you about cookies. But they aren’t just any cookie, they sort of have a special ingredient, at least to my brother and I it’s special.

One Christmas years ago my brother and I got these orange shaped chocolate balls.

You smash them and when you open the wrapper the pieces come out like a real orange. The chocolate is the most creamy chocolate you will ever have with a hint of orange.

Needless to say we get them in our stocking every year and we both look forward to it.

I had some seriously good self control and realized I hadn’t cracked into it yet so I decided to smash it up and put it into cookie form and send them off the college with my brother.

The verdict was the cookie helped compliment the orange. But seriously if you haven’t tried this chocolate I highly recommend you do. You can find them at Trader Joe’s.

Oh they look SO good!!! We do have many kinds of Swiss-Orange-Chocolate here, but they don’t look as pretty as these! My fave chocolate is Kinder or RAGUSA, a very typical Swiss brand and the BEST.

Oh wow those sounds and look amazing. I like that you made them slightly “healthier” too with whole wheat flour. I don’t think it changes the taste of them much at all and makes for a more filling cookie.

haha its funny that you mention that because as I was typing it up, I was thinking obviously these aren’t going to be healthy so why did I used whole wheat flour!? I guess I just like the way it makes things taste, also you are right about it making it more filling~

Yum! My mom made some chocolate orange biscotti earlier in December and it was awesome! I’ve never seen these at TJ’s but they look great, I’ll definitely keep my eyes open for them next time. Have a good Wednesday!!

Yum! I love biscotti especially when dipped in coffee, I’m sure your moms biscotti was delicious! It’s quiet possible the chocolate oranges at traders are seasonal, not positive though.

It is the only chocolate and fruit flavor I seem to enjoy. I can’t get into chocolate and raspberry and chocolate and strawberry is hit or miss unless it is a strawberry dipped in chocolate, then it’s a hit!

Oo what an awesome idea! I’ve had cookies with orange zest in them before and I just love a nice and subtle flavor like that paired with chocolate. Love the idea of using this Christmas classic to make Christmas COOKIES! Year round!

I live in Scotland so chocolate oranges are always in the supermarket! I bought loads for my parents as stocking fillers! You also get them in bars through the rest of the year :) Think i’ll go and get one tomorrow so I can try this recipe! Sounds delicious!
