Ways You Can Make Your Health A Priority

Living a healthy lifestyle is something that has always been important to me. Since I am into health and wellness things that seem like “common knowledge” to me aren’t to other people because they don’t spend their days thinking about it the way I do. When I share my tips with my health coaching clients or people who ask for advice they are often shocked to hear just how easy it could be for them if they made a few small changes. Below you can find a few of my go to tips when encouraging people to make health more of a priority in their life.

Ways you can make your health a priority:
1.) Exercise: Getting your body moving is so important for your overall health and well being. I often tell my health coaching clients that it could be the cheapest therapy they’ll ever get. It gives you an opportunity to shut your brain off for a little while and just focus on the task at hand. I have worked out so many “issues” whilst running, swimming, walking or taking a class. Just doing 20 minutes of exercise a day will make you feel infinitely better! If you are someone who doesn’t exercise I encourage you to start small and add on from there. Try exercising 3 days a week for 20 minutes and as time goes on add in another day and more time until you have developed a nice little routine for yourself. I am someone who enjoys exercise and I realize not everyone can devote the same amount of time as someone else might to their workout so I encourage people to do what they can when they can.

2.) Meal plan and prep:
Meal planning is so important to setting yourself up for a healthy week. Every week I spend 30 minutes looking for healthy recipes and writing down all the things I need from the store. This way I am buying the things I actually need and don’t waste any food or money. It also helps us to eat healthy home-cooked meals. I also like to buy fresh produce and cut and peel (if necessary) it on Sundays and keep it in bags in the fridge for a quick snack and easier lunch prep during the week.

3.) Get outside: Vitamin D is soooo good for our mind, body and soul (always wear sunscreen) but it isn’t always easy for us to get outside (side note: people who have a high vitamin d intake have a stronger immune system and are less likely to get sick). While I do up my Vitamin D intake in the winter it is so important to get some fresh air everyday. Before having a dog I made myself spend time outside during the work day because I knew it would be good for my mental clarity and health. Just going for a short walk around the office building or sitting outside on a bench during lunch did me wonders. I am fortunate enough now to have a dog who doesn’t allow me to make excuses to stay inside but if you don’t have a dog to force you outside try going for short walks during lunch, sitting outside, walk to or from work if you can, or take a walk before or after work. Having a friend to go on walks with you is a plus or use the time to catch up with friends on the phone or listen to a podcast.

4.) Take your Vitamins: I can’t even tell you the last time I was sick and I truly believe it is because I take my vitamins every.single.day. I tend to rotate the vitamins I take but one vitamin I take regularly is New Chapter Every Woman’s One Daily Multi.

5.) Indulge: I truly believe the way to your healthiest life is to allow yourself to indulge every now and again. We are not doing ourselves any favors by depriving ourselves of what we want. If you want a sweet have a sweet, if you want a glass of wine or fun cocktail have it! If we allow ourselves to honor our cravings and indulgences we will be less likely to go overboard or binge and we will enjoy the treat when it comes time to have it.
