True Life: I’m Obsessed with Collagen

No this is not a post where I tell you this holistic, all natural, organic loving girl gets BOTOX. Quite the opposite actually…

This is a post where I tell you what collagen is all about, why it is good for you and ways you can add it into your life NATURALLY!

Our body is made up of 1/3 collagen; collagen is a hard insoluble fiberous protein. It is found in our bones, skin and connective tissues. It provides structural strength, support and degree of elasticity.

When we are young our collagen production is booming! As we age our production level decrease naturally reducing our skins structural integrity leading to SAGGING SKIN in the form of LINES and WRINKLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what you are thinking, I am too young to be worrying about that! But, the truth is YOUR AREN’T!! You are never too young to worry about lines and wrinkles because unfortunately they come with age (gag, I know!) But you can do things (NATURALLY) to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines and keep your skin looking young!

First off there are a few things you could be doing that are sabotaging your collagen as we speak:
Eating a diet high in sugar– just no, not only is ruining your collagen, but your putting yourself at risk for so many other things
Smoking– I won’t even go there. The writing is on the carton.
Sunlight– I am guilty of soaking up a little too many rays in the summer but last summer I vowed to spend less time in the soon and be OCD about sunscreen.
Autoimmune disease– don’t let this go untreated for too long, your health is very important

Ways to get collagen in your everyday life:

proline- egg whites, meat, cheese, soy and cabbage

anthocyanidins- black berries, blueberries, cherries and raspberries

vitmamin c- oranges, strawberries, peppers and broccoli

copper- shellfish, nuts and red meat

Vitamin A- animal derived foods and plant foods as beta carotene

Drinking a cup of bone broth

Taking collagen supplements: This is the easiest/most convenient way for me to get collagen in everyday. There are lots of options at your local health food market but I currently use Country Life Maxi Skin collagen powder and either add it to water or my morning smoothie, it is flavorless and you can’t even tell it is in your water. For collagen in capsule form I like this one
Tell me how you are preventing wrinkles?

Did take it too seriously before? Have I sold you now?
