Health Benefits of Pumpkin

Let’s talk about everybody’s favorite fall obsession PUMPKIN. While I believe people take PSL (pumpkin spice lattes) to another level there are some amazing benefits of pumpkin.

healthy benefits of pumpkin

1.) Pumpkin can make recipes healthier: Pumpkin can be used in recipes to substitute for butter or oil. Admittedly it is one of my favorite alternatives to use when baking.

2.) Pumpkin is FULL of antioxidants such as Vitamin A & E which are both great for your skin! They are also high in vitamin C which is a great immune booster and this time of year we could all use extra C to keep the inevitable summer to fall colds at bay.

3.) It is a great laxative for dogs. If your dog is sick and needs to get things moving in the bowel department a half a can will help them do just that.

4.) Pumpkins are rich in minerals like, copper, calcium, potassium and phosphorous.

5.) Pumpkin is low in calories, contains NO saturated fat or cholesterol and is RICH in dietary fiber!

6.) Bonus: Carving into a pumpkin means pumpkins seeds, which in my opinion is the best part of pumpkin carving. Not only are they seeds delicious they reduce LDL Cholesterol (aka the bad cholesterol), they also make us happy. Pumpkin seeds contain tryptophan which boosts our serotonin making us happy :)
