Seeing that I work in a health food store I am bound to try countless vitamins and supplements. I want to be able to accurately recommend a vitamin to someone and be able to share my experience with it.
A little over a week ago I started taking bee pollen, now before I get into why I decided to give it a try I will tell you what it is.
Why is is so good for you?
Bee pollen is considered one of nature’s most complete foods because it has all the nutrients required by humans. The pollen contains 40% protein, free amino acids, vitamins like b-complex and folic acid.
Bee pollen is more rich in protein then any other animal source.
Reasons to add bee pollen to your diet:
1.) Enhances energy: The carbohydrates, b vitamins and proteins can help keep you going all day long by enhancing stamina and fighting off fatigue.
2.) Soothes skin: Bee pollen is often used in topical products that aim to treat inflammatory conditions and common skin irritations like psoriasis or eczema
3.) Respiratory System: Bee pollen contains a high quantity of antioxidants that may have an anti-inflammatory effect on the tissues of the lungs, preventing the onset of asthma
4.) Treating Allergies: Pollen reduces the presence of histamine. Studies have been done to show that patients who suffered from allergies and asthama were no longer showing symptoms after taking bee pollen.
5.) Digestive system: bee pollen contains enzymes that can aid in digestion. Enzymes assist your body in getting all the nutrients you need from the food that you eat.
6.) Boost immune system: Pollen is good for the intestinal flora and thereby supports the immune system.
7.) Supports the cardiovascular system: Bee pollen contains Rutin; an antioxidant bioflavonoid that helps strengthen capillaries, blood vessels, assists with circulatory problems and corrects cholesterol levels. It’s potent anti clogging levels could prevent heart attack and stroke.
8.) Infertility problems:Bee pollen stimulates and restores ovarian function, therefore may be used to assist in accelerating pregnancy. As well as being a hormonal booster it is also a great aphrodisiac!
Why I decided to try bee pollen?
I wanted to test out bee pollen to see how it helped with endurance and enhancing my energy. I take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and I truly feel it gives me energy all day long. I usually feel pretty tired after walking out of the gym to head to work and I have not felt that lately. I also don’t get the 3-4 pm slump where I wish I would allow myself to drink more coffee. My bosses husband started taking it and took it too late in the day one day and said he couldn’t go to sleep that night because he was wide awak.
I also didn’t feel fatigued when I ran on saturday. Aside from my IT band starting to bother me while running I felt like I could have kept on going.
How do you take it?
There are several forms you can take bee pollen in. Granuales, which is suggested to just sprinkle over your breakfast, pills, or in jelly form.
I take the jelly form and I just eat a tsp of it in the morning. However, the jelly tastes like butt so if you aren’t able to quickly swallow it down I wouldn’t suggest buying it in that form.
*Please consult with your doctor before trying anything new.
** also please keep in mind it is possible to have an allergice reaction to bee pollen, if you are allergic to be stings I would not recommend taking bee pollen.
