Well the winter days have finally caught up to me and I woke up with a nasty cold the other day. Like most people I just don’t have time to be sick, nor do I have the luxury of sick days any more.
I have never been one to take cold medicine, I just don’t like the way that is makes me feel and I also don’t really know what I am putting into my body. Seeing that I work in a health food store I have a plethora of vitamins at my disposal to see if they actually do really work. The following are some suggestions and based on personal experience have worked miracles.
Natural Ways To Cure a Cold:
1.) Honey and cinnamon: my mom told me this one a while ago and it seems to work great getting rid of colds. Both honey and cinnamon have antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal properties, so both help attack the virus. Its recommended that you use Raw Honey and mix 1 tsp of honey with 1/4 tsp cinnamon and eat it.
2.) Warm water with lemon: hydration is key when your sick and if you have a sore throat the hot water just feels great.
3.) Elderberry: I take Sambuactin like its my job now.
Elderberry is known for its natural support for the immune system. Elderberry’s use as a flu remedy dates back to ancient Roman times. Typically, Elderberry consumption will improve flu symptoms within three days. Elderberry contains concentrated amounts of vitamin C, flavinoids, fruit acids, and anthocyanic pigments. It is also an excellent source for vitamins A and B and may also have antiviral properties.
4.) Sleep: this is a given.
5.) Tea: such as Traditional Medicinal has a whole line of tea’s for colds two of my favorites are, Throat Coat & Gypsy Cold Care.
6.) Echinacea: has been known to reduce peoples chances of getting a cold and cutting the length of ones cold if they start taking it once they get sick.
What do you do when you have a cold?
Do you take any of the vitamins mentioned above or just grab so nyquil and dayquil?
