Today we are talking about whole grains!
Why might you ask? Because a few days ago Jeff asked me why carbs are bad for you if they are the first thing your body burns off.
Well they aren’t necessarily bad for you, it just depends on where your carbs are coming from and how much of it you are eating.
Whole grains are an excellent source of nutrition because they contain essential enzymes such as iron, dietary fiber, vitamin E and B. The body absorbs grains slowly providing sustainable and high energy.
Grains you should be eating.
Brown rice, buckwheat. oats, oatmeal, amaranth, barley, bulgur, cornmeal (polenta), couscous (not a grain but made from wheat), kamut, millet, quinoa, rye berries, spelt, wheat berries, wild rice.
*If you soak your grains for 1-8 hours you increase their digestibility and eliminate phytic acid.
If you are gluten free the grains you can eat from the list above are:
Brown rice, buckwheat, amaranth, cornmeal (polenta), millet, quinoa, wild rice, oatmeal/oats is questionable depending on contamination.
