Oh hey there! Hope you all had a lovely holiday! I had a very nice time with family and my friend Teresa! I am sad to see her go but am hopeful I will get myself to Germany sometime soon!
I am playing catch up so bear with me as we recap my Thanksgiving starting with the annual Crean runners way of kick starting the day! Turkey Trotting! Whether we are in Rochester of Fairfield we will be trotting.
According to my dad records the last time we were in Rochester for Thanksgiving was 6 years ago! He also was beating me by a few seconds then, my how times have changed ;).
I take a very relaxed approach when it comes to running races, I go in with no expectations but to finish, and run strong. After years of giving myself anxiety over swimming races this approach to running is working wonders for me!
A little over 5,000 people signed up for the race so to say the start was slow is an understatement! I managed to make it through the crowd and found the run to be very enjoyable, it helped that the temps were close to 60 and the sun was shinning down! I wore my Garmin but I try not to look at it very often and was happy that the first and only mile marker I saw was at 2 miles. It was nice to know I only have 2.4 miles to go!
The race is relatively flat until the last .2 of the race when you seem to channel your inner cross country runner as you run down dirt path and do your final sprint through grass. Which happened to be a little slick so that last stretch I was focused on not whipping out!
I didn’t run into any crowd issues but my cousin’s wife said that when they ran down the hill they had to stop and walk because so many people were there!
Overall it was a great way to kick off a day filled with family, food and fun!
Did you run a turkey trot?
Do you have any Thanksgiving traditions?
