Should you being eating for you blood type?

Hi there, hope your having a good week so far! If you are in the area don’t forget to enter to win Tickets to Brewfest at Mohegan Sun, the giveaway ends Thursday night.

As I was studying for my 3rd IIN test this week I came across a diet theory I had wanted to discuss but forgot all about it! (I passed in case you were wondering, only one more test and then I graduate!)

Throughout IIN we learn about all different dietary theories because we follow the model “not all diets work for everyone,” “what works for me might not work for you.” It is important as a health coach to learn about the many different options out there, some interest me more than others and this one definitely got my interest.

The blood type diet– Is a diet based on the idea that people react to foods differently based on their blood type. The concept being that blood type influences our digestion and that each blood type has different strengths and weaknesses.

Type O: A person’s diet should have red meat, high protein, vegetables and fruit. Type O’s are more susceptible to wheat and corn allergies.
If a person with Type O blood was looking to lose weight they should reduce consumption of wheat/corn, baked goods, kidney beans, navy beans, lentils, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, mustard.
They should increase kelp, seafood, salt, liver, red meat, kale, spinach and broccoli.

Type A: A person’s diet should be a vegan, vegetarian diet, vegetables, tofu, seafood, grains, beans, legumes and fruit.
If a person with a Type A blood type was looking to lose weight they should reduce consumption meat, dairy, kidney beans, lima beans and wheat.
They should increase consumption of vegetable oil, soy foods, vegetables and pineapple.

Type B: A person’s diet should be an omnivorous, meat (no chicken), dairy, grains, beans, legumes, vegetables, fruit. They are more likely to naturally tolerate dairy.
If Type B is looking to lose weight they should reduce corn, lentils, peanuts, sesame seeds, buckwheat, wheat.
They should increase greens, eggs, venison, liver, licorice tea

Type AB: A person’s diet should be a mixed moderate diet; meat, seafood, dairy, tofu, beans, legumes, grains, vegetables, fruit.
If Type AB is looking to lose weight they should reduce red meat, kidney beans, lima beans, seeds, corn, buckwheat.
They should increase tofu, seafood, good quality dairy, greens, kelp, pineapple.

Foods that are beneficial for all blood types are
broccoli, kale, collards-most dark green vegetables
plums and most berries
olive oil
sardines
green tea

Foods that are neutral are
almonds, walnuts, pecans
quinoa, brown rice
eggs
agave nectar and dates
mushrooms

things all blood types should avoid
wheat and wheat flour
bacon/pork
black olives

I wish my mother could remember my blood type because I find this to be very interesting. I am mostly curious if I unknowingly gravitate more towards certain foods because of my blood types “needs.”

What do you think about this diet theory? Are you buying it?

Do you know your blood type?
